Will Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film protect my paint?
Can Paint Protection Film be applied over a vehicle that has had the paint touched up?
It’s recommended that any repainted surfaces on your vehicle be professionally painted and fully cured before applying paint protection film. If you have touched up scratches or chips with “touch-up” paint and then apply paint protection film over it, the film will protect that area until it is removed. In some cases, when the film is removed, it is possible that the area of touch-up paint could peel off with the film.
If I decide to remove the film, will it damage the paint of my vehicle?
No. If the paint is fully cured and the vehicle was prepped for painting properly, then there should be no issues at all. (it can be removed usually in one piece) without damaging paint surfaces beneath the film. Factory paint almost never has issues. If you had a body shop do paint work, then simply ask them what their recommendation is on when to apply the film.
Can I cover the whole vehicle with Paint Protection Film?
It is possible on most vehicles. An application of that scale would be difficult and very expensive. This product is intended for the most vulnerable areas of the vehicle. Commonly people will consider a full hood and fender upgrade since they prefer to not see a line of a partial hood and fenders.
Can Paint Protection Film be applied over vinyl graphics?
Generally it is ok to cover vinyl graphics without any issues. In some rare cases, if the Paint Protection Film is removed, damage may occur to the underlying vinyl graphics during the removal process. Another thing to consider is that the film may not fully adhere to the outer edge of the graphic, which then leaves a small air gap about 1mm or less depending on thickness of the vinyl graphic.
Can Paint Protection Film be used on headlights, fog lights or windshields?
In the USA, Paint Protection Film does not meet the DOT’s standards for optical clarity and is not approved for use. There are higher optical clarity films for headlights, such as Ricochet™ clear light films. AutoArmorNW uses this film to cover headlights and fog lights.
Does Paint Protection Film resist yellowing?
Only films that have a true clear coat, such as 3M Scotchgard™.  3M Scotchgard™ will resist yellowing because the film is constructed of thermoplastic urethane, which is a tough, conformable material that is covered by a true clear coat layer. The film and clear coat layers contain UV protectants to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing. Urethane is naturally porous and will easily yellow or change color due to the pores getting clogged up with contaminants and airborne particles. 3M seals this urethane layer with an actual real clear coat that is very smooth and the pores are very small in comparison to urethane alone. Other films, such as Ventureshield™, has a hardened top coat urethane, but is still not a true clear coat. This film can be damaged by something as simple as detailing your car or can stain due to bugs, road tars, or bird droppings. Very few films have the long-term durability and yellowing resistance of 3M.
How is Paint Protection Film maintained?
After the initial installation, refrain from touching the film or washing the vehicle until the film is fully cured (approx. 3-5 days). Once the film is cured, it can be treated like the rest of the vehicle’s painted surfaces. The film should be washed and waxed regularly (i.e. weekly washing and monthly waxing) to maintain its best possible aesthetic appearance. Avoid dyed waxes. There are actual waxes designed specifically for Paint Protection Film that we stock and sell. Ask us about them!
Can I wax Paint Protection Film?
Yes. We highly recommend it! When waxing the vehicle, be careful not to build up wax against the edges of the film. If it happens, this can easily be removed (when dry) with a soft cloth, such as a microfiber towel. Tip: We suggest using  “1/4 painter’s masking tape” over the leading edge of the film to avoid wax build-up entirely. Remove the painter’s tape when done waxing and buffing and no buildup will occur!  Wesco Auto Body carries 1/4 painters masking tape or we can sell it to you on request. We recommend Synthetic waxes designed for urethane films. Do not use any wax containing colored dyes. Abrasive polishes and/or rubbing compounds are not to be used, unless expressly directed by manufacturer.
What products are recommended to maintain Paint Protection Film?
For the DIY car enthusiast, we recommend Chemical Guys for waxing (their synthetic, long lasting waxes leave no build-up on the film and provide excellent results). We choose Clear Seal Gloss Enhancer and Protectant for clear bra and Paint Protection Film. This product gives it the ultra slick mile deep shine! Also consider protecting your whole car with the best shine known to man with this dynamic duo of products from chemical guys, Jet Seal 109 and Pete’s 53. NOTHING beats these products. Truly is amazing product! Xpel makes a urethane film wax that is safe to use. Also, Meguiars Tech Wax 2.0 is an decent choice. Otherwise, consult your detail professional for additional options.
How is Paint Protection Film removed?
The film can be removed at any time by picking up an edge of the film and pulling the film off the vehicle at the angle it is adhered. Do not remove it at a 90 degree angle from the way it is adhered.  This can cause unneeded stress on the paint and will leave more adhesive. Age of the film and temperature of the film are also a variable that can make it more difficult to remove. A heat gun or hair dryer may be used to soften the adhesive, allowing for easier removal. Don’t attempt to remove the film in cold weather. If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using a paint safe, general purpose adhesive cleaner. Technique is important when removing the film. If you don’t feel comfortable removing the film yourself, we can remove it for you at our standard labor rate.
Can I see Paint Protection film?
Some people say paint protection film is invisible. The film is hard to see if you’re not looking for it. The film is approximately 8mil thick (about the thickness of 2 pieces of paper) and very clear. It’s designed to be viewed several feet away.  At this distance, the film will blend in well with your vehicle’s painted surfaces and is barely noticeable to most people. A quality installation is key to its visibility or lack there of. The better the install, the less likely you will see the film.
Will Paint Protection Film harm the paint if it's removed after a period of time?
If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece and without damaging the painted surface beneath the film.
I want paint protection on my car; how long will it take to install?
The time can vary depending on the vehicle, color and amount of coverage. A typical application of a Full Kit will take about 2-3 hours.  It is advised to allow up to 4 hours or more, depending on the vehicle and the time needed to fine tune.
What is typically included in a Paint Protection Kit?

Every vehicle model has a kit design specific to the high impact areas of the vehicle. These are broken up into package categories which are:

1. Package A: Bumper, partial hood, partial fenders, mirrors (some models also include wheel lips, wheel flares or side intake pieces)

2. Package B: Bumper, full hood, full fenders, mirrors (some models also include wheel lips, wheel flares or side intake pieces)

3. Package C: Partial hood, partial fenders, mirrors

4. Upgrade 1: Door Cups, Door Edges, Headlights, Fog Lights

5. Custom: we can design almost anything and commonly have many additional parts for vehicles, such as : A-Pillars, above the windshield, side skirts, rear bumper top, behind rear wheels, behind front wheels, sill plates, fender lips, fender flares.
